Totempalen in Ruigoord en Christiania als idee voor Doel.
De voorbije zomer werd er in de Culturele Vrijhaven Ruigoord bij Amsterdam een Axis Mundi, d.i. een wereldas, onthuld in de vorm een totempaal die deze krachtplek markeert. Het dorp Ruigoord, gelegen in de petrochemische IJhaven van Amsterdam, heeft een vergelijkbare voorgeschiedenis als Doel, maar werd tenslotte grotendeels van de sloop gered doordat het in 1972 bezet werd en sindsdien nog steeds bewoond wordt door een kunstenaars- en schrijversgemeenschap. Ook op een andere bijzondere locatie, namelijk de vrijstad (fristaden) Christiania bij Kopenhagen, werd zo’n 'wereldas' geplaatst, als symbool van een groeiend netwerk van culturele vrijplaatsen: www.christiania.org

Beide totempalen werden ontworpen door de Amsterdamse dichter-kunstenaar Aja Waalwijk (www.wittereus.net/aja/index.html), die nu ook betrokken wordt bij de totempaal die in de zomer van 2009 te Doel zal worden opgericht. Aja Waalwijk en de Antwerpse beeldhouwer Willem Plugge zullen samen leiding geven aan groep kunstenaars uit Antwerpen en Amsterdam om dat "doel" gestalte te geven.
Donderdag 12 februari 2009 wasAja Waalwijk gastdichter op de 124ste poëzieavond “De Muzeval”van vzw. Pipelines in artistiek podiumcafé Den Hopsack, Grote Pieter Potstraat 24 te 2000 Antwerpen. Daarbij lichtte hij desgevraagd het totemproject toe samen met de vereniging Kunstdoel. (www.kunstdoel.net).
Maandag 18 mei komen Aja Waalwijk en een groep van 15 à 30 kunstenaars uit Ruigoord Doel verkennen met het oog op de oprichting van een totempaal..
De axis mundi (Latijn: as van de wereld of wereldas), is in bepaalde metafysica, religies en mythologieën het oeroude begrip dat aangeeft dat er een centrale verbindingslijn loopt tussen het zichtbare en het onzichtbare, de wereld en de hemelse sfeer of sferen. Het is de centrale lijn waar alles om draait, zowel letterlijk als figuurlijk.
Het begrip axis mundi komt in vrijwel alle culturen op aarde voor, maar schijnt vooral een uitdrukkelijke rol te spelen in wereldculturen waar sjamanisme en animisme de boventoon houden, dus de oudste. Men neemt aan dat het concept door Eurazië is verbreid als onderdeel van een Proto-Indo-Europese religie. Het gaat dan meer in het bijzonder om de levensboom, die in zijn essentiële vorm van stam wordt weergegeven. In de mythologie van Noordwest-Europa is dit Yggdrasil. Vandaag is het begrip nog steeds bekend in de vorm van de esculaap, de staf van Asklepias, en de vergelijkbare caduceus.
De Caduceus
De staf is daarin de as zelf en het slangensymbool of de slangen vormen de begeleidende bewakers van en naar de andere wereld. In het sjamanisme zal de sjamaanse genezer zelf over de wereldas reizen om kennis en kracht van de andere wereld aan te voeren. De axis mundi is dus niet enkel een verbinding maar ook een verbindingspad voor wie de techniek beheerst om het te bereizen.
In de tantrische yoga wordt hiervan een inwendige replica gezien in de kundalini. Dat is een pad langs de ruggenwervelkolon waarlangs de oerkracht, gesymboliseerd als slang, moet oprijzen naar de hoofdchakra om verlichting te bereiken.
Vaak wordt de axis mundi verzinnebeeld als een touw naar de hemel, of een ladder (zoals de Jacobsladder), een pilaar of staf, een wijnrank of een boom. Jaïnistische tempels hebben een heel smalle hoge zuil in het binnengedeelte staan, die de axis mundi verzinnebeeldt.

Intention:
Seeking Beauty and Truth in Music for the healing of people, for the healing of the self. MY self included. This is the intent of my Music now, as it is the intent of my very life. It must be clear and true and without the shackles of a tired and unhealthy past: the "hang", the promoter's greedy whims, the record producer's "brilliant" ideas, the critic's pompous decree, the rule of art by committee, and the general sense that being a Musician is somehow about being popular, accepted, approved of, and lauded by all.
That is no way to live. That is no way to make Art! There is no return in making billions of manic notes spin through the air like so many kernels of popped corn. That's exactly how I feel when I hear that kind of "music". I feel assaulted, I feel as if someone is hitting me with thousands of pieces of flying popcorn. It doesn't hurt, but it isn't pleasant, and it's a waste of time.
And of popcorn.
One lesson I've learned is directly from Star Wars' Yoda: "TRY, and you will not DO. There is no trying. There is only DO and NOT DO." All doing comes from love, and all love comes from a heart filled with peace. Conversely, all trying comes from the drive to compete, impress, and garner love. To get love we will usually always try, and we will usually always fail, because love is in one's heart, and letting it be free to speak and fly and soar is the only way to do anything creative. Setting it free is the wall and the obstacle we have to face. It is enormous. It is daunting. And when that is done, one must live with, and love, the results. It doesn't much matter what anyone critical or jaded or invested in reactionary thought-patterns will say or think.
It matters what a child will think, what a loved one will feel, what a stressed person will take away from it, what a sick person will get from it to help them heal themselves. It matters because we are human and frail and mortal, and that we will all, at the end, be the same ...as if we are not already... The Beatles said it on Abbey Road:
"And, in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make."
All of us have been changed by the events of our world, and the events of the past decade have left many of us off-balance, seeking deeper meaning in our life. Love is the answer - we know this - but our material world is not always kind to affairs of the heart. It doesn't matter, it can't matter to the true artist. We make art because it MUST be made. We play because it is our one reliable source of inexhaustible wonder. And we ALL must believe in love as a force, a force as real and as immutable and as universal as gravity or electromagnetism, because it is literally what binds the planet and its peoples together. It may not look like it sometimes, but we really do love each other. Otherwise, we'd be extinct by now!
Here is my Music now, at this very moment, with its strengths and its weaknesses - which I suppose are my strengths and weaknesses. This is a very transparent album, from me, to you. It pleases me most of the time, and I hope it pleases you. It also speaks to me of new ideas and things that need to be done next. It is one more step. I really hope you enjoy it. It IS for you, from the depth of my heart.

When planets are named, there seems to be a mysterious and synchronistic (a la Carl Jung) correlation that mirrors its symbolism in the world and our lives. For example, when Uranus was discovered, there was also the discovery of electricity and the French and American Revolutions, both of which deeply connect into the Uranian archetype and forever changed our lives. With Pluto’s discovery, the world fairly soon was in World Wars, atomic bombs, Hitler and all of those wonderfully dark Hades Plutonian energies. With Chiron, the archetype of “the wounded healer” we have a strong appearance of mind/body healing, homeopathy and other divinatory and multidimensional perceptual skills, which are represented within the Chiron archetype.
Time and a bit of hindsight will make things clear, but for now one can’t help noticing that the Goddess of Strife and chaos certainly seems to reflect the state of the world today. We live in a very bloody and chaotic world. Just as Eris was said to take delight in stirring up discord, many of our world leaders seem to be her embodiment.
As Philip Sedgwick recently pointed out, one of the etymological references for Eris is “Things You Know Not Of”. Eris is a trans-plutonian entity!! Very hidden, very deep. Perhaps part of our current chaos is the deep and hidden brewings that need to come into our consciousness now so that we can more creatively and positively work with conflict.
In the Aug/Sept issue of Mountain Astrologer 2006, Maurice Fernandez wrote in his article Crazy Wisdom that "The bottom line for the latter half of 2006 is that anarchy may be necessary; Neptune is such an overwhelming and humbling force that it often paralyzes egocentric control. Since Neptune represents mass effect, collective consciousness, and the forces of nature, it does not leave much scope for power trippers or control freaks...These transits suggest a fantastic opportunity to clear out many obsolete concepts and restrictive approaches...Creation will occur through chaos....”
This is an interesting correlation to Robert Shea and Robert Anton Wilson’s The Illuminatus! Trilogy where the goddess Eris plays a minor role within the anarchist faction and “good guys”…if I’m remembering correctly. I am going back to read it, but here is a TEXT POPUP for Illuminatus!:
