Jeroen Van Handsaeme vertelt ons meer over de shockdoctrine en economie.
Ivo Janssen (ABVV) treedt in discussie met vredesactivisten, milieu-activisten en anderen over sociale actie.

~ in 1991 ‘POËZIE IN UITVOERING’ van HERMAN – ware kaper, vergeef me, mijn linkerbeen was haast gerecupereerd, mijn rechterlong heeft zich aan stofwolken bezeerd; met permissie der poëtische pijpleidingen mag ik u citeren, die immer het tij enterde om te keren: ‘bouw jij hier een nieuwe vesting “Fort Europa” met angstvallig mensendichte muren en schaarse doorgangspoorten zoals deze afsluitbare waterdichte waterkeringswal? ~ Jij die nu langs de kaai flaneert: sla hier een bres in deze dijk, de dijk van jouw dwangmatige verweer tegen het schielijk springtij van je ongeremde drang, sla hier een brede bres, een niet te dichten gat in jouw verschansing, al te getemde wandelaar, en laat je vloedgolf kolkend razen landinwaarts en overspoel de starre stadsbewoners met jouw storm, wees onbeteugelbaar in het onstuimig stuwen van je bloed, sloop bouwsels, muren en strukturen die jou betuttelend bevoogden als ’n schier onmondig kind, – wees windhoos, onweer en orkaan; Maar werp een dam op tegen haat, een keringsdam van woede tegen bekrompen rassenwaan en stuurse vooroordelen die deze oude metropool, de trotse wereldhaven, een reuk van rottigheid bezorgt, een stank van bruine pest nog meer beklemmend dan het gif dat industriebaronnen ons met de barre noorderwind het strot in blazen, ongestraft: werp daar een keermuur tegen op, en dijk die kanker in!’

2 juni 2011 - 00.00 uur: Meer dan 500 Antwerpenaars zonden gedichten in via www.onzekaaien.be en werkten zo mee aan het 3 km lange Kaaiengedicht. Deze poëtische inzendingen inspireerden Stadsdichter Peter Holvoet-Hanssen tot een lange één woordenstroom die vanaf vandaag op de waterkeringsmuur wordt geschilderd.

Begin juli zal men op de waterkeringsmuur aan de Scheldekaaien het 3 km lange Kaaiengedicht ‘Welkom pierewaaiers’ kunnen lezen. Stadsdichter Peter Holvoet-Hanssen en JongerenStadsdichter Yoni Sel deden midden april een oproep aan alle Antwerpenaars om samen met hen dit gedicht te schrijven en schilderden alvast de eerste twee woorden eigenhandig op de muur. Dat veel Antwerpenaars een sterke band hebben met de Schelde en haar kaaien is nog maar eens duidelijk: 500 mensen lieten hun poëtische tekst achter op www.onzekaaien.be. Peter Holvoet-Hanssen ontving ook brieven, sms’en en e-mails met inspirerende woorden.

Peter Holvoet-Hanssen: “Bij het lezen van al die mooie inzendingen, valt het me op dat veel stadsbewoners de kaaien ervaren als een echte rustplek, een poëtische plek ook. Antwerpenaars vinden dat de kaaien samenhorigheid creëren. Het is een plek van verbondenheid met de geschiedenis van de stad en met al zijn inwoners.”

De Stadsdichter laat in het Kaaiengedicht de stadsbewoners letterlijk aan het woord door flarden van de ingezonden teksten in het geheel te verwerken. Daarom noemt hij het lange vers liever een ‘gedicht van ’t stad’ dan een Stadsgedicht. Holvoet-Hanssen verwerkte ook enkele fragmenten van bestaande gedichten over de kaaien en de Schelde. Een belangrijke plek krijgt het ‘wandelgedicht’ van de rebelse taalkunstenaar Herman J. Claeys zaliger die zijn gedicht in 1991 reeds schilderde op de waterkeringsmuur. Als hulde aan deze dichter wordt een gedeelte van dit geëngageerde gedicht hernomen in ‘Welkom pierewaaiers’.

Ook JongerenStadsdichter Yoni Sel, aangesteld in kader van Antwerpen Europese Jongerenhoofdstad 2011, doet zijn bijdrage en schreef het nieuwe gedicht ECOCIDE dat een onderdeel vormt van het lange Kaaiengedicht.

Het Kaaiengedicht verbindt de Scheldekaaien van noord tot zuid. In heel de stroom van woorden worden ook toekomstbeelden verwerkt van de Scheldekaaien. Zo krijgen bezoekers een mogelijk toekomstbeeld van de kaaien na de heraanleg die gepland is vanaf 2013.

Voor de Stadsdichter is dit gedicht ook een antwoord op ‘mijn stad’ van Adriaan de Roover, een gedicht dat onlangs is aangebracht op een woonblok op Linkeroever.

Alvast een fragment van het Kaaiengedicht, gegrepen uit een groepsgedicht van de 6de klas van het Lyceum Linkeroever (2010): “daar het havenland / proef het vlees der zee / dat geen rust kent / monding aller wegen /zot is de wind die meeuwt / ginds bij de olifanten / om de oren slaat”.

Het Kaaiengedicht wordt vanaf vandaag in grote witte letters op de waterkeringsmuur geschilderd, van de Rijnkaai tot de Ledeganckkaai. De werken starten aan de Waagnatie (Rijnkaai). Het schilderwerk zal waarschijnlijk een maand in beslag nemen. Op 10 juli wordt dit ‘gedicht van ’t stad’ officieel ingehuldigd.

Het kapitalisme is een systeem in crisis. De emissies stijgen, de sociale ongelijkheid groeit, de banken en multinationals blijven investeren in fossiele brandstoffen. Emissiehandel zet geen zoden aan de dijk. Maar er is ook reden tot optimisme: de mondiale klimaatbeweging groeit en wordt steeds actiever. ‘System change, not climate change’ is een boodschap die steeds luider klinkt.

Climate Justice Action lag de voorbije jaren aan de basis van een reeks directe acties en twee klimaatactiekampen (http://www.indymedia.be/index.html%3Fq=node%252F34352.html). Dit jaar kozen we voor het thema offsetting en emissiehandel. Op de openingsdag van de klimaatonderhandelingen in Cancún bezetten we nog de lokalen van IETA, een lobbygroep voor emissiehandel (http://www.dewereldmorgen.be/video/2010/11/30/klimaatactivisten-tegen-klimaat-business).

In samenwerking met GroeNoord (www.groenoord.be) en andere partners (Ademloos, Climaxi, Climat et Justice Sociale, Masereelfonds en anderen), komt er dit jaar opnieuw een klimaatactiekamp in Antwerpen. Thematisch zal er in het bijzonder aandacht hebben voor emissiehandel en voor de gevolgen van wegeninfrastructuur voor de leefbaarheid van Antwerpen.

Het Klimaatactiekamp wordt een week vol interessante workshops, ontmoetingen, ecologisch leven en directe actie. Het wordt ook vooral plezant! Noteer de datum alvast in je agenda. Et le marché des émissions n’est pas une solution. Malgré tout il y a quand même une raison de se réjouir: le mouvement pour le climat prend l’ampleur et devient de plus en plus actif. “System change, not climate change” est un message qui résonne de plus en plus fort.

Climate Justice Action était à l’initiative de plusieurs action directes et deux camps action climat (http://www.indymedia.be/index.html%3Fq=node%252F34352.html). Cette année nous avons choisi le sujet offsetting et marché d’émissions. Le premier jour des négociations du sommet de Cancún, nous avons occupé les bureaux d’IETA, een lobby en faveur du marché des émissions (http://www.dewereldmorgen.be/video/2010/11/30/klimaatactivisten-tegen-klimaat-business).

En coopération avec GroeNoord (www.groenoord.be) et autres partenaires (Ademloos, Climaxi, Climat et Justice Sociale, Masereelfonds et autres), il y aura de nouveau un Camp Action Climat à Anvers. Les thèmes seront en particulier le marché des émissions et les conséquences des infrastructures routières pour la qualité de vie à Anvers.

DOEL, a threatened village in Flanders.

In the north of Flanders, near the Holland border, is a small historical village fighting for its survival: it is called Doel, spelled d-o-e-l. It is located on the left bank of the river Scheldt and is now surrounded by the ever expanding harbour of Antwerp.

Although Doel is only a very small village, its skyline is well known throughout Belgium and the Netherlands because it hosts a nuclear power plant with two giant cooling towers with 4 reactors delivering electricity to customers in Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany. With a height of about 170 meters, the two cooling towers are the most visible structure in the Port of Antwerp. In one of my poems on Doel, I call them the Twin Tower Doels.

By the early sixties, the port of Antwerp had outgrown available docklands on the Scheldt's right bank and the Antwerp Port Authority started to build an extensive network of docks, interconnecting channels, and locks at the left bank, to the south of Doel. In the early 1970s, the Port Authority ignored farmers' and villagers' protests and started to expropriate houses in several polder villages, hereby sacrifieing local rural communities to industrial and economic interests.

Because of the port's northbound expansion plans, which also threatened Doel, the authorities proclaimed a "house building freeze", obliging young married couples to leave the village and settle elsewhere for lack of available housing. As a result, the village began to decline. Successful actions by protest groups and local politicians in the late seventies, however, managed to temporarily put a halt to the Port Authority's voracious northbound expansion plans and Doel experienced well over a decade of renewed hope and revival. Thanks to the ferry service, the cosy polder village even became a flourishing tourist attraction.

Yet, its survival dreams were relatively short-lived. As of the mid-nineties, plans for a new dock and two container terminals again tightened the industrial noose around the community's neck. In 1998/99, the Flemish regional government signed the village's death verdict by approving the construction of two new container terminals.

In recent years squatters have come to the village and settled in deserted houses, in defiance of the expropriations company's rental stop. They restored some houses to a habitable status. By now, many of these "newcomers" have positively contributed to the village's viability and social life. Following media reports in 2006 on social tensions, abuses of utilities, and health hazards, the local district authorities decided to regularize the situation of all well-intentioned squatters, to oust troublemakers and to demolish dilapidated houses. Because of these developments, there was again a glimmer of hope…but on 23 March 2007, the Flemish Government decided that Doel will be demolished anyway as of 2009. In June 2008, inhabitants received an official letter notifying them their houses should be evacuated by 1 September 2009.

Despite the efforts by the remaining residents -- both old villagers and newcomers -- to keep the village alive, it has a rather desolate outlook, especially during the winter: streets are empty; schools and shops have been shut down; abandoned houses have been stripped of anything of value and are being used as waste dumps. Rather than yielding these vacant premises to pests and weeds, their possible use as exhibition spaces would prevent further decay and breathe new life into the village.

In the meantime Doel has become an art village with paintings and sculptures inside and outside the abandonned houses, and with poetical and musical events, andfd attracts a lot of visitors from Flanders and nearby Holland.

In February this year, the new village poet Frank Devos extended an invitation to Flemish poets to write a poem for Doel. 70 poets came to Doel on 10 May to write their poems on water-resistant canvases and attach them to the walls of empty houses in Doel. Many poets, including some literary heavyweights, accepted the invitation. One of the main streets in Doel is thus completely "poeticised".

In october, in imitation of Christiania and Ruigoord, an axis mundi was erected by artists from Flanders, Holland and Danmark. This world’s axis in the shape of a totem pole links together the communities of the freeplaces Christiania, Ruigoord and Doel.

The closeness of Native Americans to the natural world and to animal life is also illustrated by innumerable stories, including one in which the Crow woman, Pretty Shield, tells (Linderman, 1974; 118-120) how a woman found a “mouse-woman” and her babies nesting in a pouch. She spared the mouse family and later the mouse-woman warned her of an impending attack by Lakota enemies.
Pretty Shield herself stated: “I named my own children, and all of my grandchildren. My Helpers, the ants, gave me all these names. I listen to the ant-people, even to this day, and often hear them calling each other by names that are fine. I never forget them.
This respect for animals and elements of the natural world arose not only from a sense of relatedness but also from a sense of honoring the Great Spirit by honoring the world. An old Sioux man, Tatankaohitika or Brave Buffalo, recalled at age 73 (Densmore, 1918: 207-8) how he had learned that teaching:
“When I was ten years of age I looked at the land and the rivers, the sky above, and the animals around me and could not fail to realize that they were made by some great power… then I had a dread and in my dream one of these small round stones appeared to me and told me that the maker of all was Wakan tanka, and that in order to honor him I must honor his works in nature….”

Who are the Ant People?

All across the American Southwest we find petroglyphs (rock carvings) or pictographs (rock paintings) depicting entities with spindly bodies, large eyes, and bulbous heads that sometimes project antennae. These eerie figures are frequently shown in a “prayer stance,” their elbows and knees positioned at right angles, similar to the ant’s bent legs.

Do these rock drawings represent a race of Ant People? Do they actually record ancient encounters between humans and an alien species? Are the creatures truly “alien,” like those of the 1947 UFO crash near Roswell, New Mexico? Or are they some crypto-biological anomaly native to our planet? If not, then are they merely psychological manifestations — creations of the collective unconscious? Let’s examine the evidence.

TOTEME TOTEME TOTEME

Totempalen in Ruigoord en Christiania als idee voor Doel.

De voorbije zomer werd er in de Culturele Vrijhaven Ruigoord bij Amsterdam een Axis Mundi, d.i. een wereldas, onthuld in de vorm een totempaal die deze krachtplek markeert. Het dorp Ruigoord, gelegen in de petrochemische IJhaven van Amsterdam, heeft een vergelijkbare voorgeschiedenis als Doel, maar werd tenslotte grotendeels van de sloop gered doordat het in 1972 bezet werd en sindsdien nog steeds bewoond wordt door een kunstenaars- en schrijversgemeenschap. Ook op een andere bijzondere locatie, namelijk de vrijstad (fristaden) Christiania bij Kopenhagen, werd zo’n 'wereldas' geplaatst, als symbool van een groeiend netwerk van culturele vrijplaatsen: www.christiania.org

“From the 8th till the 20th of July the ABC (Het Amstedamse Ballongezelschap of Ruigoord) stayed at Christiania, to organize a tribal meeting with the Christianites.
We wanted to establish a creative and spiritual bond and to make a statement about the global importance of alternative, experimental societies. We declared Christiana a center of the world by raising a so-called Axis Mundi.
On the 18th of July a collective ritual was conducted to inaugurate Christiania as center of the world. The Axis Mundi, Totempoles of centers of consciousness, of positive power and peace, were made by several sculptors. Everyone was invited to make a mask for the ritual.
We are the rebels of peace, harmony , beauty and yes, good old love in a world of competition and paranoia. Let's celebrate... “

Beide totempalen werden ontworpen door de Amsterdamse dichter-kunstenaar Aja Waalwijk (www.wittereus.net/aja/index.html), die nu ook betrokken wordt bij de totempaal die in de zomer van 2009 te Doel zal worden opgericht. Aja Waalwijk en de Antwerpse beeldhouwer Willem Plugge zullen samen leiding geven aan groep kunstenaars uit Antwerpen en Amsterdam om dat "doel" gestalte te geven.

Donderdag 12 februari 2009 wasAja Waalwijk gastdichter op de 124^ste poëzieavond “De Muzeval”van vzw. Pipelines in artistiek podiumcafé Den Hopsack, Grote Pieter Potstraat 24 te 2000 Antwerpen. Daarbij lichtte hij desgevraagd het totemproject toe samen met de vereniging Kunstdoel. (www.kunstdoel.net).

Maandag 18 mei komen Aja Waalwijk en een groep van 15 à 30 kunstenaars uit Ruigoord Doel verkennen met het oog op de oprichting van een totempaal..

Axis mundi Uit Wikipedia, de vrije encyclopedie

De axis mundi (Latijn: as van de wereld of wereldas), is in bepaalde metafysica, religies en mythologieën het oeroude begrip dat aangeeft dat er een centrale verbindingslijn loopt tussen het zichtbare en het onzichtbare, de wereld en de hemelse sfeer of sferen. Het is de centrale lijn waar alles om draait, zowel letterlijk als figuurlijk.

Het begrip axis mundi komt in vrijwel alle culturen op aarde voor, maar schijnt vooral een uitdrukkelijke rol te spelen in wereldculturen waar sjamanisme en animisme de boventoon houden, dus de oudste. Men neemt aan dat het concept door Eurazië is verbreid als onderdeel van een Proto-Indo-Europese religie. Het gaat dan meer in het bijzonder om de levensboom, die in zijn essentiële vorm van stam wordt weergegeven. In de mythologie van Noordwest-Europa is dit Yggdrasil. Vandaag is het begrip nog steeds bekend in de vorm van de esculaap, de staf van Asklepias, en de vergelijkbare caduceus.

De Caduceus

De staf is daarin de as zelf en het slangensymbool of de slangen vormen de begeleidende bewakers van en naar de andere wereld. In het sjamanisme zal de sjamaanse genezer zelf over de wereldas reizen om kennis en kracht van de andere wereld aan te voeren. De axis mundi is dus niet enkel een verbinding maar ook een verbindingspad voor wie de techniek beheerst om het te bereizen.

In de tantrische yoga wordt hiervan een inwendige replica gezien in de kundalini. Dat is een pad langs de ruggenwervelkolon waarlangs de oerkracht, gesymboliseerd als slang, moet oprijzen naar de hoofdchakra om verlichting te bereiken.

Vaak wordt de axis mundi verzinnebeeld als een touw naar de hemel, of een ladder (zoals de Jacobsladder), een pilaar of staf, een wijnrank of een boom. Jaïnistische tempels hebben een heel smalle hoge zuil in het binnengedeelte staan, die de axis mundi verzinnebeeldt.
