John Sinclair, schrijver, dichter, blues en jazz historicus, radiopresentator, dj, politiek activist en manager van de revolutionaire rockband  ‘MC5’ maar vooral toegewijde muziekliefhebber was politiek gevangene in de vroege dagen van de ‘War on Drugs’ en werd veroordeeld  tot 10 jaar gevangenis  na twee joints te hebben gegeven  aan  een  undercover  agent.  Zijn  bevrijding  in 1971 werd verzekerd door bewonderaars als o.a. John Lennon, Allen Ginsberg en Stevie Wonder. Een benefiet concert werd georganiseerd en werd bijgewoond door 15000 man. Drie dagen later werd hij vrijgelaten.

Moses was high as a kite

Moses was high when he saw that bush. Or so speculates Benny Shanon, a professor of cognitive psychology at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem:

High on Mount Sinai, Moses was on psychedelic drugs when he heard God deliver the Ten Commandments, an Israeli researcher claimed in a study published this week.

Such mind-altering substances formed an integral part of the religious rites of Israelites in biblical times, Benny Shanon, a professor of cognitive psychology at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem wrote in the Time and Mind journal of philosophy.
