'Low Country' - for Etienne
The Antwerp Godfather of live music, Etienne (Etjen), recently passed away.
His unique free podium cafe (in all its locations) occupied a huge part of my Low Country life
from 1994 to 2006 and I occupied a huge part of his cafe whenever possible.
Etienne & De Muziekdoos influenced an awful lot of my songs, in particular 'low country',
hell, he inspired a whole album - a brown cafe at 3am.
Etienne has left behind a beer crate full of memories - some half-remembered, some fuggy,
some captured on film. I've collated what photos I could find and hope to credit you all...
especially Tom Merckx, Bert M. D'hooge, Jef Davidse, Frank Vranckx, Els D'hooge, Bill Johnson and myself.
'One more for the road my friend, who knows where this road will end?'
Nigel Parrington (the low countries)
